Is this a "Christian" organization?
Well, yes and no.
We wholly subscribe to the Judeo-Christian ethics that are an
integral part of the self-governing principles of democracy. In fact, we
believe that democracies are, by their very nature, fragile and require a
certain level of self-restraint by their citizens. This is one reason that the
first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Jay, said, "Providence
has given to our people the choice of their rulers. And it is the duty as well
as the privilege and interest of a Christian nation to select and prefer
Christians for their rulers." We, furthermore, hold that our heritage
is indisputably Christian.
Our organization does not deny its affinity for Christianity. It
is obvious that Judeo-Christian ethics are a subset of biblical teaching. Many
of the leadership, including the founder, proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and
Savior. Members and leadership, furthermore, are free to express their
Judeo-Christian beliefs in both discourse and practice as they pursue our
united organizational objective of a virtuous government for all. On the other
hand, while we all may have some differences of opinion, we must also remember
Benjamin Franklin's sage wisdom: "We must hang together, gentlemen...
Else, we shall most assuredly hang separately." Hence, this
organization does not require its leadership, membership, or the candidates it
supports to be Christian only to be responsive to the Judeo-Christian
ethic. It is well to prefer true Christians who embody this ethic, but we
are not ignorant of the fact that many non-Christians have supported sensible,
moral behavior. In politics, then, those who are not against us are for us. We
welcome their support.
